What Reidys say...

"The Taylor Academy series is the company's most affordable range of full size guitars yet. You can get a great quality instrument that's amazing for beginners (and will impress seasoned players along the way) with a nice, clear tone. Taylor's idea behind the Academy series was to create 'the best, for the most, with the least' - basically, to create the best instrument that will cater for as many players, by using the least resources to keep the cost down.

The Taylor Academy guitars are simple - if something doesn't really need to be there, it's not there. The result is an elegant range of guitars that play nicely, with great intonation. The necks are sleek and they're fitted with light gauge strings to make it that bit easier for beginners. The armrest makes it comfortable to play, but also allows the top of the guitar to resonate.

The lineup consists of the Taylor A10 - dreadnought, A12 - grand concert, and the A12-N - grand concert with nylon strings. All three of the Taylor Academy body shapes feature a solid spruce top and laminate back and sides to give a clear and responsive sound. This particular model is the steel string concert model - a great option for someone who wants an almost full-length scale, but a smaller bodied guitar. The grand concert Taylor Academy A12 lends itself nicely to players with a slightly softer touch, or those who find themselves fingerpicking more often than not. Delicate folk, blues and pop players will love this. For players of smaller stature, this is a good guitar to go for as the neck is slim and the body, combined with built in arm rest are all very comfortable."

Richard Blenkinsop, Guitar Expert

Taylors Academy Series makes the playing experience more accessible in every way, packing signature Taylor playing features into an affordable package. With the A12e, Taylors compact Grand Concert body makes the perfect companion for fingerpicking or anyone with a lighter touch who craves the physical comfort of a small-body guitar. The guitars design specs are optimized for playing ease. Taylors patented, slim-profile neck features an array of hand-friendly touches: a shorter 24-7/8-inch scale length, 1-11/16-inch nut width, low action, and light gauge strings, all of which contribute to a slinky handfeel.

The lightweight guitar body, featuring layered sapele back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top, boasts an ergonomic armrest that enhances the playing comfort for one's picking arm. The guitar was also voiced to be extra responsive to make the playing experience as relaxed as possible. The guitar comes with an onboard ES-B pickup that includes a built-in digital chromatic tuner, and comes with a sturdy lightweight gig bag.

The Academy Series - Making a Taylor Guitar More Accessible

One of the biggest reasons why new guitar players give up is the lack of a quality instrument. High action, bad intonation or cruddy sound will quickly derail the playing experience. That's why we poured our guitar design expertise into developing our new Academy Series guitars. The goal was to remove all the barriers that get in the way, from feel to sound to cost. The result is a guitar that's easy on the hands and helps you sound great from your first strum. Our Academy Series guitars will inspire everyone from beginners to seasoned players looking for a great guitar at a great price.

    • Enhanced Playability - Our sleek, hand-friendly necks feature light-gauge strings and optimized dimensions for a slinky feel.

    • A Comfortable Armrest - This ergonomic feature is built into the guitar body to offer a more relaxed and rewarding playing experience.

    • Killer Sound - Besides clear tone and impeccable intonation, these guitars are voiced to respond easily to a player's touch.

    • Quality Construction - Our guitars are engineered to last a lifetime. Our patented neck and durable body design make these guitars easy to maintain.

    • Affordability - An emphasis on design simplicity enabled us to produce a fully engineered Taylor guitar at an entry-level price.

  • Broad Musical Appeal - Choose from a Dreadnought for strumming or flatpicking, a Grand Concert for fingerpicking, or a nylon-string Grand Concert.
