What Epiphone say.....

History of the Classic EB Bass

In the early 1960s the Kalamazoo factory, home to both Epiphone and Gibson instruments, decided to cease production of the Les Paul guitar. In its place came a radical new guitar design that also influenced the Kalamazoo factory's bass designs. With the Les Paul (temporarily) out of the picture, the SG took over. And for a time during that golden era of manufacturing, the classic SG bass was the historic factory’s sole electric bass.

But the EB “SG” bass was by no means a cast-off. It quickly became one of the most attractive and distinctive basses in rock and players like Bill Wyman of The Rolling Stones, Cream’s Jack Bruce, and The Who’s John Entwistle made rock history on SG-style basses. Now, Epiphone presents the EB-3, a stunning recreation of the vintage marvel with all the tone and feel of the original without the vintage price tag and vintage problems.

The Epiphone EB-3 comes with Epiphone’s Limited Lifetime Warranty and Gibson 24/7/365 customer service. Visit your Authorized Epiphone dealer today and discover the sound of a legend with the EB-3 bass.

Classic Styling

Part of the charm of the EB-3 bass comes from its long scale neck which adds to the bass’ great sustain and tone. The SG-shaped mahogany body has a 34” scale mahogany neck that is an easy fit not only for bassists but guitar players who occasionally take on bass in the studio or on stage. The hand-set, SlimTaper™ neck has a rosewood fingerboard with classic trapezoid inlays and a standard 1.65” nut.

Vintage EB-Tone

The tone of the EB-3 hasn’t changed either with Epiphone’s famous Sidewinder humbucker pickup in the neck position and our famous NYT mini-humbucker in the bridge position which perfectly compliments the light tonewood mahogany body. The EB-3 features a cool retro style three-position pickup selector switch to shape the frequency response. All together, the EB-3 provides you a wide range of tones and colors that far exceeds almost any bass available to the working musician and easily holds its own on any stage.

Pedal to the Metal Hardware

Like all our Epiphone models, the EB-3 uses all nickel hardware, a full adjustable bridge, a full function volume, tone, and frequency response control using full-size 500K O potentiometers, and classic style premium machine heads.
