What Reidys say...
"Everything in Gibson’s Original Collection is based on a guitar from their 'Golden Era' - the 50s and 60s. Gibson have listened to the players calling for the classics, now here they are! On these, you’ll see period-correct specs, from the pickups to the neck profiles. If you want a Gibson that looks, sounds and feels like how they did in their Golden Era, but don’t quite want to spend Custom Shop money, then the Original Collection is the way to go.
This does what it says on the tin - it’s a 1961-inspired SG. Everything’s as it should be - mahogany body and neck, 5-ply teardrop scratchplate, bound rosewood fingerboard, slim neck profile and Kluson-style tuners. The pickups (Burstbucker 61R & Ts) have been voiced specially to recreate the sound of the guitar’s debut year and dish out incredible vintage tones. It’s a nice alternative to the SG Standard - if you want something with a little more of an old-school vibe, this is the one to go for."
Richard Blenkinsop, Guitar Expert
The SG Standard ‘61 returns to the classic design that made it relevant, played and
loved -- shaping sound across generations and genres of music. In 1961, the Les
Paul model was put on hiatus and an all new design evolved into what is today
known as the SG or “solid guitar”. The Gibson SG Standard '61 retains the styling of
the original featuring a slim taper mahogany neck and a bound rosewood
fingerboard. The mahogany body features deeply sculpted body scarfing, a 5-ply
teardrop pickguard and a 22nd-fret neck joint. The nickel plated hardware includes a
classic-style Tune-O-Matic bridge and keystone tuners. The pickups are 61R and 61T
humbuckers for a classic voice with added power and top end. Controls feature
audio taper potentiometers and orange drop capacitors.
