Double-cut guitars, also known as double cutaways, allow the thumb and fingers to move down the frets past the joining of the neck and body of the guitar. Additionally, the strap button on double-cut guitars is typically positioned on the end of what is known as the upper horn, which is a higher position than what you might find on a guitar without cutaways.
Unlike their single-cut counterparts, double-cut guitars allow for better access to the upper fret, are around 4-5lbs lighter and are often preferred for lead guitar playing. However, when all other variables remain the same, single-cut guitars will produce a warmer and fuller sound than double-cut models
