Why does this outfit include two types of head?
Having a flute complete with a curved and straight head is a great idea, especially for younger or physically smaller players. The curved head makes the physical key-reach a lot easier in the beginning, but as the student grows or the player becomes more competent, the curved head can be switched out for the straight for a more traditional playing position.

The 10x flute has an exclusively designed lip plate which rises slightly toward the centre. This gives the new, or returning player, the benefit of having an immediate and free blowing sound, especially in the lower octave.
The lower notes are notoriously hard for the new player as it involves most if not all keys being depressed, so the air stream is at times, is right down at the bottom end of the flute. This ‘Shaped’ lip, - unique to the TJ 10x - opens up the lower register and gives a huge advantage over other student flutes because it’s not only easier to play in general, but it’s actually easier to get a great tone too.

Professional Pads for a guaranteed consistency of performance:
Your new TJ10x Flute benefits from the same high-quality Italian ‘Pisoni’ pads that are usually the preserve of much more exclusive and expensive flutes.
Using such high-end pads, and ensuring they are seated correctly in the key ‘cups’, guarantees that sound production is more immediate when each key is depressed. If there is an air leak or gap between the pad and the tone hole, the note will not sound correctly, and all your effort will have been in vain.
Plus, ‘Pisoni’ pads have a significantly longer life span than the inferior pads often found on student instruments, which translates into a better, more reliable tone for a much longer period.

Needing to ensure that the de-plating often associated with lower-cost flutes was never an issue, we developed our own method coating 10x flutes. After much research we discovered that by copper-plating the nickel tubing first, the subsequent two (yes two!) layers of silver-plate are rock solid, giving you the most durable finish of any student flute.

Imagine getting to your first lesson with your new flute only to be told by your teacher that the instrument is has poorly seated pads, or an air leak or keywork that needs adjusting. That is not going to help you learn and will require a possibly costly and time-consuming trip to a specialist store to be fixed.
We believe it’s essential that each and every TJ flute - especially the 10x student flute - goes through our exhaustive and unique UK technical quality control procedure.Each flute is set-up by one of our team of UK based flute specialist technicians at our headquarters in Lenham, Kent.
So, when you turn up to your first, second, tenth and fiftieth lesson, your flute will be good to go.
We do not make instruments for anyone else.
It’s very common in the manufacturing world, and especially so at the student-end of the market, for many different brands to be made by the same factories, using the same parts, but with a different label applied at the end.
But Trevor James flutes are very different. Our workshops in Taiwan make only TJ flutes and our components have been specially selected by us from all over the world – flute tubing from Japan, springs from France, screws from the USA, pads from Italy, and of course, finishing and final setups in England.
So, you can be sure that your Trevor James 10x flute has been designed, built and delivered with a global vision to create the best possible student instrument.
Our chosen couriers are currently operating as normal and all orders should be delivered on time. DPD are also now operating a "contact-free" service as a standard process and customers will not be asked to sign handheld units.
Order before 2pm, Monday to Friday, for same-day dispatch of in-stock orders. Very heavy items such as pianos may take longer to deliver. In-stock orders placed over the weekend will be dispatched on Monday. Estimated delivery times for out of stock items are to be used as a guide only, these items may take longer than estimated to arrive. While we try our best to ensure rapid delivery of your order, delays may occur which are outside our control, and delivery of large or bulky items, or to remote or non-mainland addresses may take longer than estimated.
Most UK deliveries are shipped by our trusted courier, DPD. You'll receive an email with a delivery day, tracking and a one hour estimated delivery window on the morning of delivery. While we can't specify the time of the delivery, if it's not convenient, you can arrange directly with DPD for an alternative delivery date or request the parcel be left with a neighbour.
For heavier items, we usually ship UK deliveries by TNT. You will receive an email with tracking details when we ship your order.
Delivery to mainland UK addresses is free on all orders over £99. Delivery charges are based on the size and weight of your order and, in some cases, your location. A standard next working day carriage charge for UK mainland addresses is shown on the shopping basket page, but you can change delivery service later in the checkout.
We use a few different delivery couriers, depending on the items being sent, your location, and the delivery service you've chosen:
Most orders will need to be signed for and we advise you make sure to check your parcel/s for any damage before signing. If no-one is available at your address, a card will be left so you can arrange a re-delivery directly with the courier. Redirection of an order after it's been dispatched may incur an extra charge from the courier.
Delivery charges displayed apply to most UK mainland addresses. Deliveries to Northern Ireland, UK non-mainland, and European addresses will cost more, and carriage charges will be shown at the checkout before you place your order. Free delivery offers may not apply to some remote/Scottish Highlands addresses.
There are currently delays for all returns processing due to extra safety procedures. Thanks for your patience during this difficult time.
It doesn't happen often, but occasionally an item can get damaged on the way to you. Don't worry! If your order is received either damaged or faulty, just let us know, preferably using the returns request form within 30 days of receiving the item, and we'll arrange for it its return and for a replacement or refund.
You can return most items bought online or by phone within 14 days for a refund (provided that it is unused and returned to us in New Condition – including packaging). You will need to return the item at your own expense. When we receive the goods back undamaged and with the correct packaging we will refund the cost of the goods.
Software or products that include software that needs to be registered are not eligible for this 14 day return period if opened and installed, and due to hygiene reasons we can't accept certain used in-ear headphones, microphones or harmonicas.
The repair procedure for items which are under guarantee varies from manufacturer to manufacturer - please refer to the documentation which accompanied your purchase or complete the returns request form and we will advise you of the appropriate process.
